as for the khaki pants & black top... i used to wear BLACK POLOs w/ khaki pants to family parties until i went to a mall and discovered the resemblence of my outfit and the people working at CINGULAR/VERIZON/TMOBILE.
as for the black pants & maroon shirt, my friend... i would definitely say this is a BETTER CHOICE and i would wear a black shiny/dress belt with a BLACK TIE ... i've done this a few times already. or just go out like a gangsta and unbutton the top and wear no tie. like TONY MONTANA hahaha. (but seriously the unbuttoned collar looks GREAT too)

yes, those shirts should go fine if you color coordinate your shoes, belt, and tie with it. I like to get a tie with both colors i'm wearing in it, like a nice striped one.
