You left out a lot of details, like which browser you're using and which operating system, etc. However, assuming you are using one of the latest versions of Windows with Internet Explorer, then the setting you want is "AutoComplete." In my version 7 of Internet Explorer I find that by going to Tools --> Internet Options --> Content --> AutoComplete Settings. From there you can turn those settings off. However, if you merely want to delete the history from AutoComplete, just go to Internet Options --> General --> Browsing history - Delete. From there you should be able to delete the Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History, and Form Data. This should remove all traces of the information you don't want showing up in any way. Once you have deleted all of these items, check to make sure those items you didn't want showing up do not show up if you start typing them again...and if you type the entire thing again, then go through the deleting process again.

Open your Tools menu and go into Internet Options... where you pick the Content page. Look down under Personal Information and click the Auto-Complete... button. Down under Clear Auto-Complete history, click the Clear forms button and hit OK! Click it again to take you right out.

Sure it's not to remove the naughty sites :)
If using Internet Explorer, you need to turn off auto-complete.
Go to Tools > Internet Options > Content tab > Auto Complete Button and make sure Forms and Web Addresses are UNCHECKED. Then press the Clear Forms and Clear Passwords buttons.
