I've had my monitor for maybe four years at the most and it has always been very reliant, but recently it would occasionally go on and off momentarily. It seems to happen almost every time I sign on to Windows XP but then doesn't happen again. Is the monitor going bad or could there be another problem? ( Oh and I have not changed anything on my computer for quite some time)

It is most likely the video card going bad (the card in the PC that makes the monitor show what it should). They go bad much more frequently than monitors go out in my experience. You can check a few things before panicking though.
First, check to make sure your system does not have powersave or hibernate turned on. This is under the power options on your control panel.
Then, change your refresh rate for the monitor to something lower than it is. You do that with a right click on the desktop, then go to properties, then go to settings. You should see some options in there to change it. You may have to poke around a bit as some cards/monitors place it in different spots.
You can also reinstall your monitor from there, which is another thing I would try.
Reinstall your video drivers and if none of the above work, try a new monitor. Borrow one if you can as they are too 'spencive to just run out and buy one if you don't know it will work LOL

Good luck!
