I use a 64MB USB flashdrive on my PC at home, and on a Mac at work. When I try to save files onto my USB, an error occurs where there isn't enough space; after deleting some larger files from the flash drive, there is still not enough space. When I change the view options on my PC to see hidden files, I see backup (???) files of those I already deleted still existing on my flash drive and taking up space. Is there any way to prevent backup files from being created so I can easily use my flash drive without having to worry about deleting hidden files? Thanks to all who reply.

64MB pretty small thumb/USB drive.
Ok these files are hidden so you need to show the up on your system so you can delete them (XP instructions).

When you put the USB drive in go to my computer select the drive double click. Then go to a tab at the top called tools select folder options>view and select show hidden file/folders this should allow you to see the hidden folders/files.

Delete the files if they have no need to you or the USB drive.

A 128m flashdrive is about $12-$50, just get a new one. The hidden Files are kinda the USB interface tools. They are what allow it to work. Its like on a Floppy Drive, says 1,44mb, but look at Properties and its 1.38. These Hardware Devices need some programming so that they will work.
Or it could be a Boot Sector Virus, but its probablly just the Config files.
Get a second USB stick, you can put a Linux OS on one now.

Those backup files were /are created by the software you are using to make those files, for example word files created by Microsoft Word/OpenOffice Word. To prevent having backup files, modify the settings of the software's you use, so whenever you save any changes made to a file, no backup is created.

P.S.
Why don't upgrade to a bigger flash drive? Just curious, since a 64 MB seems from stone age, no offense.

check the properties of your USB flash drive. or if it doesn't work, then just digilently delete hidden files everytime.
