I think it is okay, of course, I am not a doctor. I am sure a chiropractor would do it much harder than you can. It seems like you are tense and cracking your back, relieves it.
Keep on cracking!

This is along the same lines as the cracking your knucles debate. No one really knows for sure.
To people like you and me, it relieves stress on the spinal column and just feels AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh good! To others it is very painful and feels wrong. To those who don't know what it is it is frightening to hear.
Frankly, as long as you do not over extend or over twist your back I say it is fine. For me, if I don't do it at least twice a month I notice a shorter range of normal motion and many more back aches than I have when I do it.
Bottom line, if it feels good, you are healthy, and your doc can find no reason why you shouldn't, go for it!

I crack my knuckles and I've read thats not bad. I also crack my back and so far I've had no problems with it. I can only get my lower back and once I do it I feel less tense and very relaxed after doing it.
I don't think it would do anything but if your worried about it talk to a doctor.

There was a medical doctor who wrote an article on something similar. He said that when he was ten his mother told him not to crack his knuckles, that it would make them larger. For the rest of his life, he only cracked the knuckles on one hand. At age 70, he wrote an article with himself as the example, saying that cracking the knuckles had NOT enlarged them. My vote is that it's safe to do.

Not really. It just lets the fluid out and floods back in you hear a pop. I still don't know why it feels good though.

Generally no, unless it is acompanied by pain. The sound you hear is actually air bubbles escaping from the joints, not your bones grinding!
