I have 5 yr old Laguna and so far, neither of the keys lock the doors and if I lock the doors manually the keys then don't open them, the remote radio keys don't work, the driver door window doesn't go back up once it's down uless I manually force it and now I've been told I have rusty break disks - on a 5 yr old car! Is this normal behaviour for a renault?

Electrical accessories, specially windows have always been crap in Renaults, and the Laguna is no exception. Mechanics on the other hand, are quite good in my opinion. Speaking of other french cars, Citroëns and Peugeots have better "electrics". But Renault's have a certain appeal. Never ever heard of rusty break disk on any car. But since break fluid is highly corrosive an occasional drop in the disks could do the trick and corrode them. By the way, yes, it sounds Renault. Not only laguna, even the older ones, Fuego, 18,19, 21. Windows are slow in the best of cases.

Being an owner of a 1998 Laguna I have to disagree with everything you say . 130.000 miles and still going strong, 550 miles on a tank full of diesel. (£45) and 1000mph
for an eight year old car that cost less than a season ticket to watch Liverpool I dont think that is too bad

The only possible reason your car is crap is because you have not looked after it properly.

Like a previous poster said your brake discs are rusty because they may have brake fluid on them ( dont drive it untill you get it checked by a competent mechanic) .

As for your keys not opening the doors you probably have flat batteries in the key ( the batteries in the key only last about two years )

once you have stopped whinging join some other disgruntled owners and some very happy owners on

i desire which you haven't any longer offered the motor vehicle yet! The Renault Laguna has an appalling attractiveness for reliability (in particular electrics) and you will spend a super style of your income on maintenance. If I have been proceeding to get into cabbing i might purchase a 115bhp TDI Volkswagen Passat sources. no longer uncomplicated, sturdy and in case you reside removed from the 130PD inexpensive to repair as there are a super style of around.

like i've told you before, my dad's clio has had problems even although it dosen't have a lot of electric gizzmos. i'm not sure what planet canonman is on. i'm glad he has a reliable car but if he looks at the yearly JD Power survey don't remember ever seeing a laguna in the top 50 never mind the top 10. Thousands of owners can't be wrong! I've owned 3 french cars and to say they have a "laissez faire" attitude to build quality (ooh, get me using french words!) is putting it mildly. Anyway stop complaining about the car, isn't it your turn to get the coffee, you're running out of time to do it!

Yes, they're crapper than a crap thing that's really crap (sorry, gone a bit Blackadder there.) Get rid of it before it explodes.

Or for a slightly more positive view, from people who actually own and run them, and possibly even some practical advice on how to sort out your problems, have a look at www.renaultforums.com

I had to call the AA because my Honda had broken down.

The AA mechanic was amazed, he'd never stopped for a Honda before. He said he mostly stops for Peugeots and Renaults, so that might give you an indication.

Turns out the petrol dial had got stuck and just run out of petrol btw ;)

Yes, I've driven one on behalf of my company. Total rubbish, makes about 25mph in 1st instead of the expected 35 or 40mph.

They are notorious for being poorly built. It usually starts with the locking system packing up, then the electrics in general, then . . .
I'd get rid of it pdq!
