This is the one I use and it works very well.

Magic Formula - Generic Glass Cleaner

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1/2 cup Ammonia (sudsy or clear-your choice)
2 cups Rubbing alcohol
Water
1 teaspoon Dishwashing Liquid

In a gallon container, put in the ammonia and rubbing alcohol. Fill almost to the top with water. Add 1 t dishwashing liquid and mix. Top off with water. Use like Windex or any other general purpose spray cleaner.

From _Consumer Reports_. Rated to work better (and much cheaper!) than most commercial window and kitchen sprays. Alcohol is the secret ingredient, and what commercial window washers use.

Three things: vinegar (1 part), water (2 parts) and lots of newspapers to wipe. Vinegar cuts the grime. Newspapers work much better than cloths or paper towels and the ink on the paper tends to leave a finish that deters new grime (not completely...more like a temporary protective coat).

No need to re invent anything.
Try this cloth. You have to buy in packages of 5 but they are only like $3 bucks a piece. I have ordered them and use them on everything, especially windows. They are made out of tiny fibers that work like razor blades. They are guaranteed not to scratch and all you do is rinse the cloth under water, wring it out and wipe ANY surface with no streaks or scratch. Use em over and over. I have not thrown one away yet!
I even waxed my car with it! I am sold on this ...I encourage you to try it out.

Actually water will clean windows. Just fill up a spray bottle with water and spray on. Wipe dry with an older towel. (not a new towel because it leaves the fuzzies on the glass!).

Methylated Spirits mixed with water about 1 spirits to 9 water. Spray on then rub off with newspaper. The metho helps the water evaporate. If you don't have metho then ordinary water dried off with newspaper is best.

Vinegar and water works well. Don't mix it with baking soda as mentioned above, I am sure we all learned about that in science class.
