We do not live to make life less difficult for anyone other than ourselves.

Newborns quickly realize that if they cry, they get attention; pick me up, feed me, cuddle me, give me attention. Newborns do not care whether they make life less difficult for anyone. They want immediate satisfaction.

Humans are trained to be amenable to others' needs; and, unfortunately, some are trained not to care about anyone's need other than their own. Society often refers to those who are uncaring as "spoiled brats".

You can never make "Life" easier. You can only redirect it. There is a constant level of pain = pleasure, pleasure = pain, good = bad, bad = good. If it where possible to make life easier, than eventually life would be nothing but "Easy" I don't know about you but what would people celebrate if there was nothing to triumph over? Sure the hard tasks or things that attribute to pain would become dull but so would our feelings of hapiness and pleasure.
Pain is nothing more than the sugar added to ones coffee cup of life. You will only appreciate it's sweetness after you have done the work (stirred it in with a spoon).

It's not that making someone elses life less painful is a bad thing, just know that what they Gain / Lose is as different to you as you are to me. There is really no way to explain or understand another persons life experiance and true thought. Just like we will never truly know what it is like to be a bird.

LOL. at first I read it as "what do we live for, if not to make life more difficult for each other"

Do I agree with your original quote...I think that would be 'nice' if it were 100% true but I don't see that as a reality...I think Life is what you make it...you do the best you can...other people can add to it or detract based on various factors...you certainly can live for that, however,it is your choice...but ultimately, I think people do what they do for self preservation...

We live to seek for true happiness... Difficulty in life is part of who we are.. Think of a world without challenges... Can you achieve happiness without it?? absolutely not... we are so blessed that God is giving us all the challenges and difficulties in life for us to realize that everything is for our sake, our happiness and relief from pain... It is a part of everything... It is the only factor that balances every humans desire... failure and success... the absence of the other will drown us with sin...
