Three Day's Grace is considered alternative metal in the fact that they play it on the radio and is now mainstream.

Chris Barnes has been the vocalist of now three bands: Cannibal Corpse, pre-1995; Six Feet Under; and most recently Torture Killer, a band named after one of Six Feet Under's songs, song number 11 on their album True Carnage.

Dimmu Borgir recently re-issued their second album Stormblast, and I highly recommend that CD.
Cephalic Carnage, Brutal Truth, Benumb, A.C. (Not AC/DC), Moonspell is older but more melodic, Imperanon, Children of Bodom, Dark Throne, Severe Torture, Blood Red Throne, Mortician, Hatebreed, Today Is The Day, Zyclone, Behemoth, Borknagar, Naglfar, Brujeria....

The list is very big for metal.

If you consider Three Days' Grace to be metal, then actual metal is not something you want to get into.
