I like the current alloy rims for my car and dont want to change them but I'm thinking of painting the rims to match the color of the car. I just wanted to find out if that's safe. Also, is it possible to take it to a piant shop or is it something I can do myself and id i decide to do it myself, what kind of paint is best?

I did mine myself...they look great but are very time consuming. For the very best results you should have the tires dismounted....otherwise you'll be masking ALOT.....and when you go to get your next set of tires, the seam where you masked will show. Its also a great time to fix any curbage you might have.

I cleaned them up WELL with sandpaper and emory cloth. Then used self etching primer. Then several coats of the color you want. OEM is many times a base coat with a clear - which can peel. I used an enamel and they look great.

I wet sanded them and then used a polish wax. All in all, its probably more efficient to have a body shop do them, but cheaper if you do them yourself. Powdercoating is another option.

You can do them all for about $50-75. A paintshop will want $75+/wheel. Powdercoating will cost about $100/wheel.

It is safe to paint them and you can do it yourself. It may end up looking tacky though. Just sand the surface, tape off the rubber (including the valve stem) and you can use an ordinary spray can. You should use a paint that is good on metal (of course). You could use something like Tremclad or something.

Don't paint them. Get them powder coated. It may cost you 30 bucks a wheel but it will hold up and look a lot better. Most people that powder coat them will guarrentee them.

Don't get paint on the bolt holes or the studs/bolts won't torque down properly or will work loose over time. You need a metal to metal contact there.
