That is the internal and hiden strength of our democracy. By the time India get independence over 60 more countries also get freedom. but all those countries are now in one or other kind of repressive regimes and only India remains as a democratic society. Though such efferts were made in the name of Emergency, powerful leader like Indira Gandhi was forced to come to the people. We have seen change of several powerful regimes at the centre and also in the states very peacefully through ballot boxes.

Indian psyche is not for any such drastic change in polity. The Hindu world is centred around the family. The family is all important for an Indian. He will be at home, in any political environment, as long as his family life is secure and safe. Hence, whatever happens in the polity is accepted. Only when things become unbearably hot, a change is accepted. Evolution rather than revolution is the order of the day. India is the breeding home of contradictions and the consequent synthesis that evolves out of a commingling of thesis and anti-thesis.

India is too big and its armed forces are scattered. No one can bring them together for a coup.
