one day i asked a friend of mine if they thought i was good looking and they turned around and said to me "you don't honestly expect me to answer that do you?"does this mean they thought i was ugly.

From a guy: not an unexpected response. quite dickheaded, but not unexpected. We sometimes have trouble giving compliments.

From a woman: I think it might have been an underhanded insult.

Well it all depends on when, where, who and how you asked that Question to.

IF you were in the bar acting crazy then you should know better.

First if you asked a guy, then you should also know better. Guys never give you a straight answer, they keep you guessing. He would be thinking if i say yes, then she will think I like her, but I say no, than she will hate me. So he just says what first came to his mine which was nothing.

But if it was a girl, then well the same could be like above, (never know these days). But she just may think your crazy for asking a question like that. Your probably have all the guys checking you out, and have all of them wanting you.

No, I don't think that means they think you are ugly. Perhaps they thought that you are so attractive that your question was a joke and not worth answering since you clearly are attractive.

In the future, NEVER EVER ask a question that you are not totally capable of handling the answer to your question.

Because honey if you feel beautiful then it doesn't matter what anyone has to say.

Or maybe theyre just shy to tell you what they think, if it was a friend they probably wouldnt want to make things akward or try to make you think they like you. Some people just feel differently about speaking their thoughts.

Definitely not! Guess they want to keep this friendship thus would rather say nothing about it. You should know yourself if you're pretty or not. In this world, nobody is ugly. One can also compliment with make-up, dressing, being nice, polite and the list goes on..cheer-up!

1st - UR friends opinion never really matters.

LOOK around u. No one is super-glam.
U have to be well-groomed. Thats all.

Groom ur hair, manicure& pedicure, wax ur arm&leg hair.
Wear clean, good clothes, Wear a perfume.
Maintain eye contact when ever u speak to people. (dont stare).
Smile when u have to.
Say Sorry & Thanks when u have to.
Cultivate manners.
The above things make u more attractive than u reall are.

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to ask a friend would create an inescapable bias. I would guess your friend feels his or her answer would be flawed no matter how s/he answered.
