FRIEND:
With deep regret, I see us going backwards in race relations in many ways. The real strides were made during the Kennedy years and the lifetime of Martin Luther King Jr., Medgar Evers, etc.
Now we seem to be crippling along. Some people have changed dramatically, but bigots, nazi's, KKK's remain and sadly they have many followers. These types of groups are born of ignorance.
On the other hand, we DO have some black heros...sports stars of course, but also men like Andrew Young and Colin Powell, and movie stars like Will Smith and Denzel Washington. Some blacks have overcome the racial barrier and realized the dream on the mountain top...but we still have a long road to travel.
GOD LOVES US ALL

The biggest thing I see is the transition from systematic, state-enforced segregation, to self-imposed segregation. When anyone tries to bridge the race boundary, this usually happens by assimilating the other race's stereotypical traits. Nice progress.
