The clitoris is part of the female genital anatomy, and is the equivlent of the male penis (the clitoris is also a phallus, albeit a small one). It has no (found) purpose in the body other than to provide pleasure - it has twice the number of nerve endings found in the penis, and it's about 1/10th the size. The clitoris (also known as the clit) is used for sexual stimulation (during masturbation or partner activities).
