I have the windows XP upgrade. I paid over $100 when I bought it. I installed it on a laptop and 2 weeks later the screen on the laptop went out. It was an older laptop so it wasnt worth fixing. My question is this upgrade was for one computer but since the screen went out on that computer (I can't remember if I ever got to the point that I registered the XP upgrade..don't remember how that worked)..How would I go about installing this upgrade on another computer. I attempted to call Microsoft once about this but got someone in INDIA and didn't have a clue what they were saying....

Tried to answer your E got an error from yahoo about your address. To install the upgrade there must be an existing OS, like 98 or win2k. If you didn't register it, it will be no problem, otherwise you will have to get a new authorization from MS. My e mail is caveat_this@yahoo.com if you still want to know more about the NTpro thing.

Well first off you should not "upgrade" its better to get the full version. But if you have the upgrade and want to upgrade a 98 system, just do it, if when it asks for the product key and will not go on just follow the instructions and call the number it displays. When they ask you why you are re-upgrading tell them you had to recover your pc and they will give you a new product key.

If it is an upgrade from XP Home to Pro then (unless you had the original XP Home install disk) you would have to buy a new copy of windows. I think that you could buy a Home version the upgrade it to Pro using the upgrade you have.

i think you should just install it in the new computer cause microsoft only wants it to be on one computer. and since you tossed the old one, logically speaking this is the one copy you own that is working
