Each courtroom can be laid out differently. Usually the clerk sits beside the judge, and the witness stand is on the judge's left. Immediately in front of the judge is called the "well", and nobody can go in there. The court reporter sometimes sits in the well area, and around the well is counsel's table, where the attorney's sit. Plaintiff sits on one side, (Plaintiff is the one with the complaint), and the Defendant sits on the other side. (defendant protects himself against the complaint.) If there is a jury, they usually sit on the same side as the prosecutor or plaintiff, along the wall.

The prosecutor sits on the left side. Defendant on the right. Court reporter in front of and to left of defendant. Jury box on right side of courtroom. Witness sits to left of the judge. Hope this helps.
