another question- what percentage of the tests are mathematics? I am absolutely horrible at algebra and anything above it.. I will probably have to take some classes, but if I scored horribly in the math department, how would that affect the rest of my test?

In the USA most colleges require either the SAT or the ACT but they do not care which one you take. Check the website of the college you want to apply to, it will say what is required.

These tests are about 1/3 to 1/2 math. The questions go from really simple to really hard. So even if you are bad at math, you will be able to answer some, but even kids who are really good at math can't always answer all the questions. The test will tell the college roughly how good you are. There is not going to be any way to fool the test. It is going to show what you know.

ACT and SAT are not the most important thing in getting into college. The most important thing is your school average for the four years of high school. The ACT or SAT is just a way to check that your average is real. When you take the test, you should get a score that is average if your school GPA is average.

For all kids who took the ACT last year, the average was about a 21. For the SATs, the average of the three-part test was about 500 - 520 on each part, so a total of about 1500 - 1560 roughly.
