you are missing a lot of very important information here. It sound like a car you are talking about, what is the year make and model? I've never heard of a drive shaft belt, so clarify exactly what it is you are needing to do here.

Your talking about a "serp" belt. No problem. Find the pulley that's mounted on a spring loaded arm (the tensioner). It will usually have either a square hole in it (for a ratchet/breaker bar), or it may only have a square end that you can place a wrench on. --- I'm talking about the arm that the pulley is attached to. Once you've routed the belt around everything excect one pulley (usually the alternator pulley, being the smallest), you pull the spring loaded arm (tensioner) back to give yourself enough slack to slip the belt over the last pulley. If the tensioner won't move at all, it may be froze up and need replacement. Once you have the belt over, GENTLY release the tension on your tensioner --- it should return back and automatically put tension on your belt. It's a little tricky if you've never done it before, but believe me, it CAN be done by a novice. Hope this helps, and good luck.

the belt you want to replace is called a serpentine belt it drives all of your accessories ,alt water pump power steering and a/c it has an automatic tension-er its a pulley on a spring-tensioned arm near the alternator you have to route the belt properly (see diagram on fan-shroud or bottom of hood) on all accessories except alt. release tension with 1/2or3/8 drive ratchet slip belt on alt . make sure that you are on all pulleys properly and then crank engine turn off if it starts-up and recheck alignment of belt good luck be-careful!

a drive shaft does not have a belt. on a rear wheel drive car, it is the shaft that connects the transmission to the rear end. on a front wheel drive vehicle, they are the two shafts that go from the transaxle to the front wheels.

What is it on. Can you get a screw driver on it. You may be able to lift it on. You can also try and move the belt and the pulleys, working them as they move it may go on that way. Be careful you do not pinch yourself.
