If you are waiting for a download/upload to finish - make sure your laptop is on a well ventilated area, the laptop's AC adapter is connected, and your power settings are set to "always on" (so it doesn't hibernate). A few overnight should be fine but remember most laptops are usually designed for mobility (minimum cooling parts) and not intended for long continuous runs like desktops.

No. I leave mine on all the time. I would recommend putting it on standby though. You can do this by clicking Start > Shut Down, then clicking Standby, or just close the lid. Most notebooks automatically go to standby when you close the lid. This saves power and keeps the processor cooler.

i don't think so, just make sure it is in the open for it not to over heat and as long as your screen is off

It's actually BETTER to leave your computer on all the time.

it is bad. Your com will be molten hot and the batt's life will probably be shorthened.
