i have a now 7 month old child. i know that formula is expensive and sometimes just unattainable. at 3 months old i had givin my son a bottle of whole milk here and there warmed up like formula, with a little bit of syrup or preferably kero syrup, or light corn syrup to make it easier on the stomach and keep the child from constipating. at three months i would not recommend takeing the child off of formula permanently but on occasions i have done it, no doctor would recommend it nor approve i am sure due to allergies and the proteins can also cause ulcers if they have to much of it. now that he is older we have made the choice to put him on milk and no longer formula, we try to add as much different foods and other things to provide all the nutrients he needs. the only thing that i can say is do what u need to or whatever u feel is right. every child is different and it is ur choice on how to raise them. but one bottle here and there or until u can get formula i dont see i as a problem.

cow's milk is for calves. Even when it's okay to give whole milk to a baby it isn't always the best idea. It's difficult to digest, many children are allergic and develop ear infections and bronchitus, and there are other ways to get calcium. My children went from breast to goat's milk or soy formula depending on if I lived where I could have a goat at the time.

Our pediatrician reccomended that we wait until a year for all 3 of our girls but this may help you out:

Whole cows' Milk can be introduced after nine months of age. For infants under six months, cows' milk protein is hard to digest, the fat is poorly absorbed, and the mineral content is too high. For infants under nine months, reliance on cows' milk as the main source of energy may not provide enough iron.

By nine months, the infant's intestinal tract has matured, and whole cows' milk may be introduced. At this stage, the infant should be consuming iron-rich foods such as iron fortified cereals, and vegetables and fruit containing vitamin C. Iron deficiency anemia should be less of a concern at this point.

Once consuming cows' milk, only whole (homo) cows' milk is acceptable until two years of age.

No at this age your child can't properly break down the enzymes and it can cause intestinal bleeding and other digestive issues. You also run the chance that if they are lactose intolerent or have problems with cow's milk exposing them to it at such a young age will cause larger health problems since they're so small. I wasn't allowed cow's milk until I was 5 because my system still couldn't handle it. Just stick with the formula or breast milk until your doctor advises otherwise.

Whole milk is not okay for a child under 1 . Babies need nutrient enhanced formula or breast milk. Some children are also allergic to milk. Also even when you start a 1year old on milk it makes them constipated. You dont want your 3 month old to be constipated it makes them extremely fussy. Whole milk is never okay.

only if there is no alternative available. breast or formula milk is always better, but in an emergency, whole milk that has been pasteurized will do until the regular milk is available. By the way, once a baby is on solid foods( 6 to 9 months), giving it whole milk doesn't hurt.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! A baby cannot digest any milk, and should only have formula until one year old. Baby can have food, but not milk - it doesn't have the nutrients that formula has. Check with your pediatrician, and don't give milk until he or she says its OK. I was advised NOT to give any milk until at least 1 year.

any child under the age of 1 year should stick to mothers milk or one of the many alternitives, but i,m of the camp that beleaves all children should be kept away from milk, much longer, instead use juices... childrens bodies are developing at much earlier in life these days as opposed to just 25 years ago... today cows are force feed a steady river of grouth hormones, that are past on to children in meaat, and of course milk....do you want your 11 yr. old daughter to look 18 or 19, to all the creeps out there....serve milk as a treat, stick to juices.....for a healthier child

You can start giving about an ounce a day around 10 months and gradually increase it so they are fully on milk by a year. I would'nt try it before 10 months. Watch carefully for allergies.
