Any early works by Duran Duran and INXS can fly as an answer to this question. Works by these two bands gave a "EuroGlam" veneer to 80s music sounds that caught on strong in the US.

"Destination Unknown" by Missing Persons (from their "Spring Session M" album) signaled the "Valley Girl" essence of the 80s, with hints of New Wave. And on the subject of New Wave......

DEVO's "Whip It" is a classic "New Wave/Techno" genre icon.

Prince's glory days during the 80's hit big with "1999", "Raspberry Beret", "Little Red Corvette"......and the noveau romantic icon classic: "Purple Rain".

The 80s saw a TON of one hit wonders like "Big Country" with their self titled hit song piece; "Talk Talk" did the same.

And the artist's name escapes me by admission here....but who can forget "Rock Me Amadeus". For me, these examples marked the 80s. And it wouldn't have boomed big as it did had Don Henley not convinced US big label music artists to unite in protest over artistic strifes between them and the major record lables..........

Unfortunatley most of the music from the 1980s was pretty bad. Think back to early MTV with that crap they played. All that techno pop just makes me sick. Think Blondie, and all that synthasizer crap. Flock of Seagulls, Loverboy, Men at work, Berlin, Men with hats it is endless. Journey was and still is a force of the 80s. Bad hair bands were prevelant. Come to think of it almost all good music was made in the 70s and 60s. Neil Young and Bob Dylan probably made a few good records. Other than that it was terrible.
