Possible - through global warming. Depletion of the ozone layer. Superbugs created by antibiotics.
Other possible catastrophes include biological warfare, nuclear war, an avian flu pandemic, what if AIDS became airborne and as easy to catch as the common cold?

I think that there are so many chemicals out there right now that we aren't aware of, that it's possible they are accumulating in our systems and will shorten our lifespans.
