Had the same problem a few months ago. Usually the bathtub and sink pipes empty into the same drain. So if the main drainclogs, water backing up into one runs into the other.

My advice, rent an air blower. The drain cleaner is just a cheap temporary solution. The blower blasts air through the main drain and solves the entire problem. If you live in an apt., your maintenance man probably already has one and will do it for free.
