DEAR DADDY:
No and no. Anyway, other than sleeping on her tummy, is okay for mommy and baby. Mommy she not sit with legs crossed too long as she might break veins in her legs, but a little while is fine...and comfy.

I have the book "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and I looked up sleeping positions. It says:
"The back (sleeping) position, though more comfortable, rests the entire weight of your pregnancy on your back, your intestines, and two major blood vessels: the aorta and the inferior vena cava. This can aggravate backaches and hemmorrhoids, make digestion less efficient, interfere with breathing and cirrulation, or lower blood pressure." They recommend that a pregnant woman sleep on her side (preferably left) "with one leg crossed over the other and a pillow between them."
The book also says: "And whenever you're sitting, try to avoid crossing your legs. Not only can leg crossing promote circulation problems (like spider veins), it can cause you to tilt your pelvis too far forward, aggravating backache.
This book is very good. You can find it at almost any book store or amazon.com. (I bought mine used from amazon, it was $8)

No, sitting with her legs crossed will not hurt anything. After she gets a little further along, it may not be comfortable for her but as far as risk to the baby there is none. He/She is not that low yet!!! And as far as sleeping on her back, sometimes during labor if you are on your back, the baby's heart rate will drop and they want you to lay one side or the other and that usually brings it back up but I have never heard of this being a problem before unless it is difficult for your wife to breathe on her back but just in case I would ask her doctor.

I agree with "jester" on this one - I was advised against lying on my back, not only because it can cause discomfort later in pregnancy, but also because it squashes the main arteries, and makes breathing more difficult.
If your wife finds this to be the most comfortable position the only thing I can suggest is that maybe she prop herself up with a few pillows so that she can breathe easier, and so a little pressure is taken off her veins and back.
Hope this was of some help!

Its not harmful to close her legs if she is able to at six months. Doctors advice that woman not lay on there backs after there three months pregnant because the baby does not breathe as properly if she does this. I would tell her to sleep on her sides with a pillow between her legs. Good luck!

I think she would feel more comfortable by sitting with legs crossed for a short period of time only. As long as she is not sleeping on her tummy, it is alright. But personally, it was not too comfy for me to be on my back when i sleep. The baby's weight was just crushing my back! I recommend sleeping on her side with pillows to support her tummy and legs if she likes.
Good luck!

I was told when I was pregnant that you shouldn't cross your legs because of your blood flow. Also, when it comes to sleeping on your back that you shouldn't do that because you are putting to much pressure on your lungs and have a harder time breathing. The best way to sleep when you are pregnant is on your side with a pillow between your legs. This at least what my doctor told me.

As long as she doesn't sit like that for two long I think it's okay. And it's not good to lay on your back because the oxygen flow is not good for the baby. For the best oxygen flow she should sleep on her left side. But don't worry, this far along in pregnancy pretty much anything that is bad for the baby hurts to do. Hope that helped!

There's not a problem with crossing your legs and being pregnant.. it can possibly give her spider veins though.. When it is harmful to cross her legs she won't even physically be able to do it.. otherwise it's okay..
As long as she is comfortable she can sleep on her back.. when the baby gets bigger she won't be able to get comfortable on her back though.. It's not safe for her to sleep on her stomach, though.

Crossing your legs is really NEVER good, but it is probably not a good idea when pregnant.
I slept on my back until around the 6th month, then started sleeping on my side. Left side is ideal...it allows for the superior vena cava to drain sufficiently.....but i was more comfy on my right side.
Once the baby starts getting big, he can cause more pressure there.

She can sit with her legs crossed but should not sleep on her back-she should sleep on her side preferably her left side for better circulation for the baby.
