Does hard drive have time or stamp of when it was made?

I like to know this because I attached a hard drive about few month ago. I bought it from a recycle computer warehouse. The hard drive size was 20gb but I know other hard drive with that similar size tend to work still. I was watching a movie and suddenly it slow so suddenly. I restart the computer since there were nothing to do. The computer's hard drive is still slow but I was fortunate that I setup a network. I downloaded a test to see what wrong with the hard drive, however I am not sure how old it really is whether it might make difference. This to me it like checking the milk to see when it expire or why it expire.

Any comments?

Please no criticism about my grammar because I have disability.

No the date the hard drive was made has no affect on it's performance (unless it was an identified know batch of defective hard drives). There is a free program called Advanced Windows Care that checks all sorts of computer problems and safely fixes them, I would give that a try. Do you have at least 512 or more RAM installed, that might help to increase your RAM. I am assuming you have Windows XP, you can get a little more performance by doing this: Click on Start, then RIGHT click on My Computer, a sub menu will appear, pick the last item, Properties. A window will pop up called System Properties, choose the Advanced Tab. Under Advanced you will see a button saying Performance, click on Settings. A tab called Visual Affects will appear, choose Adjust for best Performance, click Apply, then OK. This will free up RAM and processor usage and make Windows look like the old 98 version. These should help somewhat when trying to watch your movies. Best of luck

You could check with the supplier / manufaturer the serial number on your hard drive - they should be able to tell you the date manufacture. Speed are normally 5200 and 7200rpm. There is also no expiry for HD. Problems with HD usually is due to bad sectors.

But all these does not make a difference if you don't do maintenance.

Another reason - there could be residual data on the HD that you bought. Format it.

If it is still slow after regular maintenance - check with the seller of HD or post

Well I think there is a date on the case. I do not have one out at the moment but I am pretty sure I have seen a manufacture date on them. If not just e-mail the manufacturer the part number and s/n and they should be able to tell you.
