Unless they trust you completely not to have something nasty on your finger they probably won't let you close enough to smell it. The unknown can be unnerving at best. Hold it a few inches from their nose the smell should permeate their sinus's from that distance.

If it was perfume you wouldnt say smell my finger you'd sau smell this perfume... usually people only say smell my finger after they've scratched their butt's or dirty belly buttons.. which can smell worse than azz cheese
