It doesn't make much sense. And why are (generalizing here) black people okay with making fun of white people, but take offense when white people make fun of black people?

The same reason Italians call each other 'wops', Jews make fun of each other by jokingly calling themselves cheap, women friends call each other b!tches, and a host of other cultures have turned derogatory sayings/words into terms of endearment. It takes the power out of the word and it becomesthat-just a word. The only reason the 'n' word is so popular these days is because hip hop is a staple in society now-and with that comes young Black folk-and with young Black folk comes the vernacular that we use. End of story. Now-it doesn't make it right for others outside the race/culture/friends to use these terms because you are just that-an outsider. I can jokingly call my homegirl a ***** while we're talking, but let some other femaleWE DONT KNOW call her a *****-it's on like buttered popcorn! Get my drift? Hope you got it....

Big time controversy with those 2 words. I am mixed both evenly black and white and when I was in high school I was given the "race card" to where it was ok for me to call my friends that. In fact my mother (who is black) used to call me the 'ga version when I would do something wrong. Now that I am older I have come to realize that it would be hypocritical for anyone to call each other a name that has been associated with slavery and the KKK. I wish that we all could realize that its really not all that cool

it's the "in" thing to do these days. in their race, they tend to call eachother that, but then i have found that when someone out of their race calls them that, they get mad. it's just something that they do to express what they want to call eachother. it is the same as ******. just in a different context, but they seem to think it's okay since they are the same ethnicity.

Its not the same word. A "n i g g a" is a thing of cultural communication between the african american nation of hip hop and a "Nigh3r" is a slave term. Get it right. But it does mean the same when YOU say it b/c both will get you beat down...No Im not threatening you, it's just something to keep you outta trouble in this world

I feel to white to answer this but from what I understand it's sortof an empowerment thing, since back in the day it was an offensive term used to put them down they've taken it and warped it so it's something cultural for just them that's not a put down and just between them.

Its a good name for them to call each other "******" rather than "******". Anyway, respect each other's race because we are all created equal as humans.

What do you think and what is your name? Then again we can do that cause we are the same race and understand each other.

Not all do, but the ones that do do it because it's something that others can't call them without being called a racist.
