Here is the problem:
TwinA(14yrs) will die in 3 months because of bad kidneys unless she gets transplant. TwinA is outgoing, intellegent, & everyone feels she will be very successful if she lives. At the time (not with the technological advances of today) the only kidney transplant that will be successful is from her twin. All other transplants will be unsucessful (according to then). This operation is usually safe but there is some risk like any surgery. Both can live with one kidney. The parents want this operation (gave consent) but there is an issue. TwinB does not want to donate her kidney. Unlike her twin she is a very sad(depressed), shy, & unsocial person. Twin B feels rejected because all attention has been given to her sister who is ill.TwinB has always hated TwinA who has been given more attention and love. Twin b has been given psych.treatment & other things to change her mind but no success.

Would you operate? Twin B being forced into the hospital against her wil.why

Yes. I would operate because:

a) her parents have given their consent

b) I wouldn't let twinA die
(imagine how upset the parents would be)

I'm no doctor/nurse but surely (or at least you would think) that twinB would have it in her heart to save her sister's life!!
Deep in her heart there would be at least 1% of love to her sister..and anyway if her sister does die (god forbid),
It would be twinB's fault and she wouldn't be ble to live with herself...don't you think?

All that you can do,really,is just keep trying to convince
her and go ahead with the operation...??

Anyways,
Thats what I think...I hope I helped in some sort of way?!!

At age 14, your parents are still pretty much in control of your life. However, an ethical doctor wouldn't force someone (even a minor) to undergo an operation if they didn't want to. On the other hand, chances are that someone would talk it up enough that social services would get involved....in which case twin A would likely die before a decision could be made.

I believe Twin B really wants to help, but is holding back to receive attention!!!! However if B does hold back and A dies is B ready to FEEL like she has played a role in her death b/c she will. Having the feeling of death following you is like no other and is the worse and she will begin to blame herself.....which will make her MORE depressed!!!! There are a lot of unsaid things her besides ATTENTION that is making B feel this type of way. If I was B I'd operate b/c of my personal past experience with death...I'd like to know I had done everything in MY POWER to help save A!!!!!!!!!

Obviously the potential donor is still under the control and legal supervision of Her parents. The choice has already been made for Her. Dose She really want to be known as the person who allowed Her sibling to die because of Her own emotional problems or would She rather have a reputation for honor and compassion? You tell Me which of the two is more to Your liking?

Twin B should go to child protective services and say that she's being pressured into surgery which will not benefit her and she does not want.  She should ask to be placed under protection until the reason no longer exists, or she changes her mind.

You don't have to do anything unless you want something.
You don't have to breathe unless you want to live. You don't have to obey an order unless you want to be free of whatever consequence there is for disobedience. All things are like this. Weigh the pro's and con's and make a simple decision.
