You need to bring all of your bathroom stuff you normally use in the shower or use when you get ready for the day. Depending on visitors you might want to bring make-up. PJ's good for easy access for breastfeeding, no cute bottoms though, you will ruin them. Old underwear you dont mind getting ruined, they will be. As for sanitary napkins the hospital provides that and they dont sell the size they have. If you are hot natured bring a portable fan, your pillows of course. Your husband or whom ever is staying there with you will want to bring blankets and pillow b/c there bed and things are not comfortable. Defiently bring your own towel, just trust me on that one. For the baby all you need really is anything your taking your baby home from the hospital with. Such as blanket, car seat, cute outfit. Everything else is provided. Everyone in the nursery loves when they are dressed up. Oh bring the outfit pic's will be taken in if you want those. That is all you really need. Remember the more you bring the more you have to carry home.
By the way you will return home in maternty clothes if you didn't know that already, so an outfit to come home in .

No, the sanitary pads are not necessary. The hospital will provide those for you. And you don't need Tylenol if you are planning to take pain meds. The hospital will give you something much stronger. All you really need is a robe and slippers, clothes for the baby, a carseat, toiletries if you don't want to use the stuff from the hospital, camera, toothbrush/toothpaste. It's a good idea to have some money for food just in case you don't like what the hospital is serving. Then you can have somebody run to get you something from a restaurant. Or you can arrange to have someone bring you some homemade meals. Also, bring some clothes to wear home from the hospital. Bring something that fit you when you were just starting to show. That's about how big you will probably be afterwards. Are having a boy or girl? Congratulations and Good Luck!

Make sure you bring some shampoo/body wash that makes you feel pretty. I had a cesarean and felt absolutely terrible the first time I had to get up and take a shower, so it is a way to reward yourself for making it to the shower without falling over!
You'll want to bring some makeup for the day you feel like putting it on.
You'll need a robe and thick socks or slippers for when you are ready to walk around the hospital (they will make you do this).
You will need an outfit for taking the baby home, and the baby carseat (they won't let you leave the hospital without it).
CAMERA! No matter how awful you think you look, you need photos.
Your hubby needs to bring some toiletries for him, and a change of clothes in case he sleeps there. Bring some pillows from home too....for him and for you. The pillows there are terrible.
Make sure hubby brings quarters for the vending machines, and instant coffee if your hospital is "caffeine-free".
Pregnancy books always have a list of stuff to take with you, and I never even took half of it, even though I was in the hospital for 2 weeks after the birth.
I wanted to take champagne, but I wouldn't have been able to drink it with my pain meds, and the hosp. was 7th day adventist, and they frown on alcohol in the hospital.

a nightgown, robe and slippers, 2 or 3 pairs of panties, not thongs, a dozen diapers and 2 complete sets of clothes for the baby. And clean clothes to go home in, with the size of pants or jeans you wore when about 6 months pregnant, Most hospitals will not let the baby go home unless you produce a certified car seat. you might want to also bring your own heavy flow pads since the hospital ones can be very uncomfortable. pretty well everything else should be provided at the hospital. you shouldlet them know ahead of time if you are on any regular meds so they can order them immediately when you need them.

Toothbrush, sanitary pads, tooth paste, body wash, deoderant, tylenol/advil, socks, books, magazines, a journal and a pen, a compact and maybe some gloss or blush, a hair brush, gummies, a religious picture or item, a pic of your loved ones, maybe a small album to look at pictures, lotion, a discman and some of your favourite cd's, loose clothes - jogging pants, t-shirts, a sweater to keep warm, a favourite blanket, slippers, a robe etc etc..
And ofcourse don't forget to bring the baby items lol.
I was induced on a tuesday (4 years ago) and I didn't bring all this stuff but I sure wish I had, it was so boring and lonely in there lol.
Good luck with you and your little bundle of joy, god bless sweety!

I don't remember what the books said to take, but I would take your own pillow because the ones at the hospital aren't great. I also have a favorite blanket (its fleece and oh so warm) I would take. Toiletries (don't go overboard), a camera, chapstick for sure. Blistex Silk & SHine works great! If you are the type to journal, take that so you can write out your thoughts as your labor progresses. This worked out great for a friend of mine because she wanted to remember her delivery in detail. I was in the room with her and would write the time when they would check her progress and had already written when labor started, how many cm's etc. Then you can have your visitors sign it or write a little welcome note to the new baby. How exciting for you!!! Good luck.

With both my babies I packed way too much. If you don't want to get your clothes bloody then just use what they give you. You should take a pillow or two for added comfort, some going home clothes for you and the baby, a book if you want something to read (although you may be trying to rest in all your undisturbed time) and some shower stuff. That's basically all I ever used.

Besides all the obvious things you have read about bringing in books... the only thing that I indeed treasured was a DIGITAL CAMERA with a display screen, not a disposable or video camera. My son was wisked off to the nursery with lung problems. I never got to hold him and they wouldn't let me go down and see him until my epidural started to wear off and they were sure there was no bleeding in my uterus. It was agonizing not being able to see my son. We remembered the camera and my husband and step-mom went down and took pictures and brought the camera back for me to see him. Later I could hear all the other mommy's with their little ones and at night I would venture down to the nursery and take a few pictures of him and flip through them each time I awoke. He was in the nursery for 3 days and without the digital camera I would have gone insane with worry.
I know digital cameras are so common place now but if someone doesn't own one...now is definately the time to consider one.
(oh yeah, bring your own pads. The hospital ones I got were from my grandmother's time I swear)

My and my sister-in-law took about the same main things -
A few really comfy nightgowns and socks (you don't want docs looking at your feet when you haven't seen them in months)
Any pillows you have become addicted to
Money and snack for after the birth (depending on who will be there as well)
Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hairbrush and all that kind of stuff
Something comfy for mommy and baby to go home in
AND A CAR SEAT!
