I spend two vacation sin Cheyenne area. It is only 50-60 thousand Town, They have Wyoming heritage festival days in late July, wonderful experience (not sure of exact naming).
Plus you have Yellowstone, grand Tetons, Rockies, Continental divine, beautiful landscape and wide open sky, herds of Buffalo, great hunting. A nickname for WY is the first state, (was the first female to be Justice of peace, first national park and national monument).

Most of Wyo is pretty sparse. There is a reason that prices are low, nobody lives or wants to live there. If you like living in small towns, enjoy "country and western", big fan of rodeo, like to eat beef, go hunting and fishing - i.e. if your the poster child for Bass Pro Shops - then Wyo is a good choice. Wyo is the most conservative state in the union. When Matt Shepard was killed in Laramie the first thought that came to mind was - what the hell was he doing at U of Wyo - that's asking for trouble. IMHO, the best place to live in Wyo is Jackson Hole. Problem with Jackson is that it's very close to Yellowstone. While that also brings all your modern conveniences (Walmart, Home Depot...) it's to close to ground zero for what is likely to a huge volcanic explosion. May not it will happen in our life time, but it's proven that the land is pushing up in Yellowstone, I'm just saying. Colorado is much more developed than Wyo. In the last 2-3 years a large medical center was built near Loveland, CO - it's purpose is to be a centralized emergency center for Wyo, western Nebraska etc.. Sparsely populated places can't afford major medical facilities. Those communities don't tend to attract lots of MDs to service the population either. It's a you get what you get type of scenario. Odds are if you have any major health concerns (cancer) they would send you to Fort Collins or Denver for treatment. You can find low cost places to live in Colorado, Longmont, Loveland... the highly populated communities like Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins can be expensive. Loveland is ~10 miles from Ft Collins and ~50 miles to Denver - yet the cost of living is much lower.

Wyoming is the least populated state in the union. If you don't like people, move there.
