I just had a bilateral tubal ligation done one week ago. I forgot to ask my doctor about mentral cycles after a tubal. Since my ovaries are tied off from my falopian tubes, how can one have a mentral cycle since the ovaries produces and releases eggs to the falopian tubes? Can someone explain how a menstral cycle happens after a tubal?

the ovaries release hormones causing you to build up a placenta. If you do not get pregnant and produce the accompanying hormones to stop the cycle and keep you producing the placenta, it just sloughs off. This happens whether the egg reaches the uterus or not. And yes, you will still have normal periods the same as if you had not had the surgery.sucks, don't it?

Yes. You still have your period. However, it will probably change some. I've had a tubal and so have all my friends. (about 30 women total ages 23- 46 ). We've all had problems since the tubals with irregular cycles, very heavy bleeding, severe cramping, bloating. Every so often, one of us ends up in the ER
after fainting from losing so much blood.
Between us, 12 different doctors have told us that these symptoms occur in about 30 percent of all women who have tubals.
There really isn't anything to do except treat the symptoms or have a hysterectomy (which has been reccommended in my case.)
Good luck. Hope you don't have any of this stuff happen.

Yes, it will go back to normal after about a month. I just had mine done in april. and its not only the eggs that are released. also the lining of the uterus sheds, and since you still have one its going to do its thing. just no eggs involved. It will go back to normal. I stopped having a menstral for a year, got prego, and then right after had a tubal. Now i have one once every 28 days on the dot, and its normal.

Yes you will. Your ovaries are still producing hormones and releasing eggs. (the eggs)It just doesn't flow down to your uterus anymore.

You can, and will. Ligation makes you infertile; it does not stop menstruation.
