I have been weaning my daughter off of my breasts like the doctor said, by supplementing one feeding at a time. The problem is she still doesn't want the formula. I have tried different kinds of formula (brands and soy) and I have tried both powder and pre-made. We are down to two nursing sessions a day and she will barely drink any formula. The most she has had in one day is 6 ounces. The doctor said when she gets hungry enough and realizes that is her only option she will take it. I just worry that she isn't getting enough nutrition because I know I am not producing much anymore. She is eating baby food 3 times a day. I am weaning her a little early (she is 8 months old) because of some medication I have been put on. Has anyone been in this situation or have any suggestions?

Been there, done that. Your doctor is right. When she gets hungry enough, and realizes there's no other option, she'll drink the formula. Make sure its warm enough, just like your breastmilk, otherwise she won't drink it. Also-those middle of the night feedings-stop offering her the breast-give her the bottle, she'll be to sleepy to protest anyways. Don't worry about her nutrition, she's getting what she needs vitamin wise out of the solid foods for now. Good luck!

Doctor is right, when she gets hungrey she will take it. If she is down to 2x per day. Cut it off completly tommorow. And never fix formula & breast milk. Lots of Luck

Sounds crazy, but mix her formula with breast milk. A little more formula each feeding. You might still want to breast feed her the first feeding and the last feeding of each day for a while though.

i agree with mixing formula with breast milk until she gets used to it. Start with a high mix like 6oz breastmilk to 2 oz formula and gradually use less breast milk and more formula.
