The Spiritual Living or Material Living, Who is able to cope with all the problems of life ? Spiritualist or Materialist ? When we take a look at the environment around us, whom do you think, coping with problems of life better in the longer run of one life time ? Who dies more peacefully ? the believer in God or Non - believer ? When the only sure fact is that the Ultimate Destruction with Death, why so clinging to the ephimerals by the materialist ? Why so much hesitation to let Go ? Are selfish materialists building up things on the Basic board of Materialism are not going to die ? or are they going to be permanent materially ? What does History point to ? May be spiritually people can be permanent.. Dialectical Materialism, is it a very short run, short term vision of Frogs in the Well, who actually never practice what they preach ? Is Selflessness a Material aspect or Spiritual aspect,Why should someone help another if that's not bringing in Him material rewards? So which is basic?

My God! Loaded with imponderables. Seems to be innumerable questions but revolves round one , just , one answer.
If it is understood that, since birth, human being wants only happiness we will know why one set of people chase spiritually satisfying life and the other , materially satisfying life. But the target is still only happiness.
The main difference seems to be that materialism appears to be means to an end( happiness) . But , each time one finds that these are not permanent happiness and we keep chasing more materialistic approach. And that too, with death looming large they are on the chase all the time. They konw that whatever they earn they cannot take with them when they die. They perpetuate their faith leaving the money to their children hoping the children will get happiness!
Spitiruality , on the other hand is NOT a chase. It is stillness. It stills your mind to seek happiness within. removes the cobweb in the mind. It tells that the modern managers` method of creating the problem FIRST and solving them effectively is not the way. Do not create problems in the first place.

Well, I am not a spiritualist or a materialist, I am a Scientologist. Through Scientology, I have gained a significant understanding on the difference between the physical universe and the spiritual side of things. For myself, I know the difference! Does knowing about this allow me to resolve more problems in life -- yes, to some degree.
However, through Scientology, I have found that problems can be solved if you have the tools to do so. For example, what if you knew exactly what a problem was and how to resolve it, or how to overcome various barriers in life, or how to become larger than your problems, etc.? With all of these tools, I have learned to become less alarmed at these problems, knowing that I can resolve them easily. The more I advance in Scientology, the greater abilities I seem to have. Soon enough, life becomes a game again and fun, happier and more sane.

I would say the spiritualist is more likely to cope with the bad times in their lives. The Materialist usually have no way to turn except another human which does not really give them the comfort they need. But the spiritualist believes their is a higher power that can take care of all their needs and can go to bed every night resting assured that everything will be okay in the morning.

Look at the spiritual mendicants... they beg for their food.... Rich people give alms to mendicants and seek peace, and blessings...
Nature provides food for every living being.... Humans made a mess of it and therefore, have to now "earn" their living.... So, materialistic problems were never so severe till humans meddled with it.... The self-awareness, the unique gift to humans alone, the key to spirituality, and the tool to enhance the quality of life to the highest peaks, is almost neglected, and hence this confusion !

We are all materialists in one way or another. We all endow our material objects with our abstract values. The man who says he loves one woman but sleeps with another, that is the true anti-materialist.

Material is basic which is simple straight and visible.
Spiritual is advanced, complicated and not visible and should understand with mind and soul which are not visible again.
