OMG how did this turn into a racial rant...I love Bill Cosby and ACTUALLY people there was a bill cosby show on befor the Cosby show and The Cosby show was a spin off from that the first one was just Bill and his wife he was a Doc And she a house wife....Bill Cosby wanted to show the world that black women wer smat and empowered too so he created the cosby show making her a prestigious lawwer and mother of five children with a spotless home and she wore the pants in that family too. Jeeze people educated yourself and stop speaking out of ignorance i think it is hight time we lay the racial thing to rest once and for all!!!!

actually their last name was the Huxtables.

The reason why they called it the "Cosby" Show is at the time the only recognizable star was Bill Cosby, the others were unknown at the time. Calling it the "Cosby" show probably got alot more people to watch than if it was called the "Huxtable" Show - no one would know what it was.

Also Bill Cosby was involved in almost all aspects of the show with Directing, Producing and Writing a few epsiodes, along with appear in more episodes than anyone else
