"The Declaration of Independence" was drafted between June 11th and June 28th 1776, and was adopted on the 4th of July 1776.

The Declarartion of Independence was drafted between 11th June 1776 - 28th June 1776 and not written in a single day..
The 4th of July is the date where the full Declaration was rewritten somewhat in general session of the Continental Congress. The congress, meeting in Independence Hall in Philadelphia, finished revising Jefferson's draft statement, approved it, and sent it to a printer.
For your info, most of the delegates signed the Declaration on August 2, 1776
and not 4th July 1776

It was written in June by John Adams, Roger Sherman, Benjamin Franklin, Robert R. Livingston, and Thomas Jefferson.
If you want to get technical though, the true Declaration of Independance was a document written by Richard Henry Lee, Virginia's delegate to the Continental Congress.
The document was called the Lee Resolution and he presented it to the Continental Congress on June 7, 1776.
It read (in part) "Resolved: That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved."
What we honor as the Declaration is a redrafting of this document.

it was written in June of 1776. but what most don't realize is that Independence was declared on July 2ND. not the forth it just took two days for the document to get there. also many think that every body signed the Declaration on the fourth. but most didn't even sign it till the 2ND of august.
and about the slavery thing yes they did think of getting rid of it but they knew they couldn't get the money with the up coming war to reimburse the slave owners for the slaves

if im not mistaken, thomas jefferson took several weeks to write it,but that was after the continental congress took alot of time time hash out what they wanted in it......did you know that they almost outlawed slavery too but they took it out because it was a very touchy subject then( most of them had them....) just think how the course of history would have gone if they had
