Could a bad speed sensor be mistaken for a bad transmission? Current problem with 2000 Chevy Suburban is---While going up a hill, the truck seems to lose some pull or push while the accelerator is depressed to maintain or increase current speed. Almost as if it is running out of gas and depressing gas pedal does not result in speed recovery right away. The ABS light also comes on when this happens. The Suburban has been used infrequently to insert or remove a jet ski in the past. Other than that though no heavy towing and truck is not driven rough. It is however a 2000 model 1500 LS with 180,000 miles. Meaning it has the 4L60e tranny and I've read that I'm probably lucky the trans lasted this long. Always serviced regularly and have never had any transmission problems.

Find out all you can about the customer arbitration program. My father has done this with Chevy and Mazda (two unrelated brands) and got them both to pay 50% for an out-of-warranty claim, but used good reasoning of course.
Build a good arguement. Tell them that this is obviously a defective and not worn-out transmission, and that the defect dates back to date of manufacture.....or something to that effect. Note how close you still are to the mileage limit on the warranty (36K????). Note that the new Chevys have 50K (or more?) warranties....they just increased it.....and ask them if they want to keep you as a repeat customer; that is an expensive vehicle.
You can also do a search for "technical service bulletins" (TSB) for that transmission or vehicle....I'm sure these mechanic/tech guys here could tell you better how to do that.

That is a lot of miles for a vehicle that new. It's surprising that 3rd would go out though. Usually overdrive or 1st will go out if anything. Will it shift past 2nd into overdrive even? I wonder if they can't plug the computer into the vehicle and see a problem that way.
