I don't think they killed Shamu. But there's more than one Shamu. Every whale at all the parks is called "Shamu." Of course, the original Shamu is dead.

Actually, it wasn't Shamu... it was Tillikum, he is the largest Orca in captivity... A KILLER whale has launched a deadly attack on a trainer at SeaWorld's Shamu stadium in Orlando. THE veteran trainer had just finished telling the audience about the show they were about to witness in the Killer Whale tank when it struck, a witness told WKMG. "The trainer was explaining different things about the whale ... and then the trainer that was down there walked away from the window ... and then Telly (the whale) took off really fast in the tank and he came back, shot up in the air, grabbed the trainer by the waist and started thrashing (her) around," the witness said. The Orlando Sentinel reported that Orange County Fire and Rescue responded at 2pm local time to a report of a person who was not breathing. The death was not the result of natural causes, Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman John Mulhall said. Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar. End of sidebar.

I'm not sure the original Shamu is alive, but if he/she isn't Sea World didn't kill him/her. You are most likely referring to the many Killer Whales at Sea World all nicknamed Shamu by park guests. I am guessing you saw this on Letterman, it's not true the whale is fine as well as the trainer.

No they did not kill her. She was ut under observation for a few days, and will be put to doing shows again.
She s sea world's prized killer whale, for she is 30 and has performed most of her life and was the first ever killer whale in captivity to give a live birth to a baby.
I went there when they had the baby swim in the tank with her during the shows. It was quite cute.

No, I heard on the news that Shamu was just having a "bad day" and everything is just fine. And that she is under observation.

I sure hope not. People are the main reasons animals attack. She may have been "trained", but she is still a wild animal. It is not her fault she is put in a tank with hundreds of people looking and screaming at her everyday and the trainers messing with her all of the time. I would never go to Sea World if they did and hope that no one else would ever go back either. Maybe she just wanted to be left alone, I have those days myself and would bite someones leg also if they were messing with me if I couldn't tell them to stop.
