I've always wondered why people who are so obviously homophobic troll the GLBT category...perhaps they aren't as secure in their sexuality as they think.

Anyway, I've struggled with this question myself. It's always difficult to make the first move. Personally, I think it's even harder when it is someone of the same sex. Unless you're at gay bar, Indigo Girls concert, etc., it can be difficult to tell whether or not someone is straight. You'll get better at picking up on the subtle hints once you've had a little more experience putting yourself out there.

Okay, so what to actually do. You obviously know this girl (or grrl, or woman), at least a little bit. Work on a friendship. Relationships based on that tend to work out better anyway. Once you get to know each other, start innocently touching her. Brush your hand against hers "accidentally." Tuck in the tag on her shirt. Look in her eyes and smile at her. You'll be able to tell by her reaction if she's into it.

If it doesn't work out, back off. There are thousands of cute tomboys out there. I'm sure you'll find the one for you.
