First I'd like to correct some other answers. MD does not stand for medical doctor. DO's and MD's are both medical doctors. D.O. = Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and M.D. = Doctor of Medicine.

Second - a D.O. and M.D. receive the same salary. For example a plastic surgeon will earn $xxx, xxx per year regardless of if they're D.O. or M.D. Likewise, a family practice will eary x dollars per year - however a D.O. may earn more because they have a code they can bill for if they use osteopathic manipulation. So - each specialty receives a salary (not seperated degrees)

Have you tried asking D.O.s and M.D.'s? What about using various search engines to get the answer? I would hazard a guess that just like other professions salary would depend on state, city, years of experience. Do you understand the difference between a D.O. and an M.D.?

D.O.s and M.D.'s can earn very similar salaries. The main difference between D.O's and M.D.'s is the core ideas behind their practice of medicine. D.O's traditionally have a more holistic view of medicine, treating the whole body instead of just the symptoms. They are also taught manipulative medicine, basically learning joint mobilzations and physical medicine, sort of combining chiropractic/therapy and medicine. MD's traditionally learn more of a symptom based view of medicine and health. They are both qualified to go into specialties such as surgery, cardiology, urology, etc. Most DOs that I know however do work in physical medicine, orthopedics, sports medicine, and similar fields.

DO means doctor of osteopathic medicine while MD means medical doctor. medical doctors' learn more about chemicals in the beginning of their education than do DOs. DOs learn more about the spine and spinal column being a central part of health (which it is, when you consider it being the extension of the brain, which rules the entire human body) before they learn about chemicals.

no, there are no real income differences between mds and dos.

both mds and dos are under the same requirements and license laws. both of them have to take annual exams that test their knowledge in everything having to do with health.

the only difference between them, really, is what they choose as their specialty. for example, either an md or a do can become a dermatologist. derm specialists tend to make more money than family practitioners.

there are rewards that are greater than money in choosing what branch of medicine you want to practice, whether you are a do or an md. you might want to thing of the pros and cons of each, such as the fact that neurosurgeons and plastic surgeons may be on their feet for far longer and earlier in the morning than are dermatologists, for example.

i personally have been involved with dos for many years since i lived in a building that was filled with do students because their university was down the street. that's how i learned that their first basis for health (their educational stance) was all about the spine.

i go to dos all the time, of various types. gynecologist, family practioner, and especially those that give spinal manipulations. they can balance the body and the way you breathe. go to see a few of them and ask why they chose osteopathy rather than medical doctor school. it should be an interesting talk.
