Most of the time without waking up once in that 12 hours. Just seems like a lot to me. Should I wake him up?

Yes, I mean through the night. He also has one or two naps during the day, but they vary a lot. Sometimes they're half an hours, sometimes 2 or even 3.
I find myself going into the room a lot while he's sleeping to just hold him (not wake him though), because he sleeps so long I miss him!!!

It is usually around that age that they start lumping all their naps into just a couple long sleep times.
My daughter sleeps from 9pm to 6am, then goes back to sleep from 9am to 11 or 12noon. She is 10 months old, and has just started this, but 9 mo is okay too. In addition to this, she sleeps from about 5-6 pm and sometimes from 2-3pm as well!
Just realize...your baby is moving around sooooo much more than before...their bodies REALLY need the physical rest!
Don't worry.

This is actually lower than what is needed at this age, he should be sleeping a few more hours, the normal is 14-16 hours a day. No do not ever wake a sleeping baby, unless he needs to eat or something important, the brain develops the most when infants are sleeping. This amount of sleeping is normal for children who are at a year old though.

Yes very normal. My son is 19 months. He sleeps about 10-12 hours at night. A two hour nap in the morning and a 1-2 hour nap in the afternoon. That make a 13-16 hour sleeping day for him. Ask your doc. at the next check-up. When I asked mine she put me at ease I was worried and she said no problem. I asked at his 18 month check-up.

My son is the same way. At first it concerned me but now that I've talked to my doctor I'm more at ease. He said some infants are just natural born sleepers. I guess we should consider ourselves lucky--even though I know the concern you feel. My son (10mo) has slept from 8:00pm-8:30am or even 9:00! It really worries me but I figure it's okay. He also takes a two hour nap in the afternoon. I hope this helps. I know it's hard but try not to worry.

I think that is fine... that age they are supposed to have between 12-14 hours a day, so that is pretty close, and maybe adding a nap wouldn't hurt.... my son stopped taking naps at 1, and he still sleeps 13 hours a night..... as long as your baby is healthy and content, let them sleep.

You didn't say if your child has always slept like this. Or has this developed recently? Is this sleeping during the day or at night?
If your 9 mos old is sleeping like this during the day, you should have been at the pediatricians office YESTERDAY! But if it's all throught the night and the child wakes up alert and active in the day then count yourself as fortunate.
For future reference, if you have ANY doubts about anything with your child, it's better safe than sorry. Most hospitals have a nurses line that you can call and get advice. Or call your childs pediatrician.

Do you mean through the night your baby sleeps that amount?
You should probably ask a doctor just to be sure, as you would never forgive yourself if something was wrong- although if he/she seems happy and alert when he's awake, it shouldn't be anything to worry about. All children are different, and at that age, they still need a fair bit of sleep.

i have a 2 year old son, he did the same thing when he was that old. i think that some kids just need more sleep than others. i also think that when children sleep for long hours they might be going through a growth spurt as well.

My four year old is still the same way, he sleeps at least 12 hours a night.
I really wouldn't worry too much about it, and be thankful.. Some children hardly sleep at all.
