I mean to say what actions does a person who wants to be good have to do in order to truly deserve that designation, such as, a good person has compassion for others, even if they don't know them personally, and like, what else?

I feel like a good person at the very least should do all they can to go about making the world an as good and healthy place to live on as it can be in ways that people almost universally agree on, such as a healthy pristine enviroment with a thriving ecosystem not allowing species to go extinct on land and in the water, freedom, respect, equal rights, justice, peace, prosperity, food, water shelter, medicine, healthcare, education and employment for all the people of every nation, anything I'm missing?

To be good means to be 'on target,' so they would just need to do human things well (i.e. health, social interaction, productivity), assuming there is such thing as human nature, which I believe there is. For example, every human seeks pleasure. But then you have people who like to cut themselves....who LIKE to cut themselves, you almost can't think of a counter example without assuming the position. So the study of what makes a human 'good' then becomes an anthropological study of human nature.

Tough question.
But to try to answer it, I would say that a person who wants to fulfill all obligations of being good needs to evealuate each action he or she is attempting, and ask "for who's benefit am I trying to do this."
In order to be GOOD, a person's actions should benefit others as much or more than it benefits themselves. Yes, I'd say you can do good things while being the primary benefactor of the acts you do, but capital "G" Good has a higher standard--if that makes sense.

be honest, be truthful, be kind, be gentle, even when life hands you lemons make lemonade, turn bad occurances into positive life lessons for yourself. do good to those you don't like, serve those you would rather not be around. a little goes a long way. there is no such thing as too much love.

Very Simple. Our Hindu Yoga Sastra gives 11 simple rules to follow to be a good human being:
YAMAS- Self Restraints:
1) Non-violence: Restraining from harming other living beings.
2) Truthfulness: Restraining from falsehood in thought, word,
and deed. Be true to your self.
3) Non-stealing: Restraining from desire to take what is not
yours.
4) Celibacy: Restraint from waste of energy from Body, mind
and speech.
5) Non grasping (Coveting): Restrain from hoarding and greed.
NIYAMAS: Internal Restraints:
1) Cleanliness: Purity of body, mind and thought.
2) Contentment within: True happiness lies in accepting the
way of things that life offers.
3) Burning desire for spiritual path.
4) Self Study: Broadening of intellect through the serious study of
known and the unknown.
5) Surrender to Lord: Accepting the fact that nothing is in our
hands. Accepting the will of God.
6) Moderation in every thing.
If we are able to follow even a few of the above regulations in life we can certainly become good human being.

I think individual definitions of "good" vary way too much to standardize it. Someone who thinks they are a good person IS a good person. If you can look on your current actions and not feel like any of them are bad, then you are a good person, even if you have done bad in the past.

Only one. As Shakespeare wrote ' this above all, to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day,Thou canst not then be false to any man. Personally though, I prefer the 11th commandment, Thou shalt not get caught.

Just be yourself. Follow your instincts. Love yourself, and others. Don't judge others because you have not walked in their shoes. Be positive, and love your home...Earth.
Maybe you should stop being a rude. That would be a great start!

Christ taught us to love God with everything we have and are, and love our neighbor as ourselves.
of course we cannot do this. men are prideful, greedy, jealous, murderous, idolatrous, and adulterous, just to name a few dark stains on my own soul.
there is no one good, there is no one with out sin.
that is why we need the free gift of Grace through faith in Christ.
