Unfortunately I fell forward on a ice patch last night and now my knee is swollen. I don't think I broke a bone because I felt fine and walked home last night. This morning I woke up with my knee very swollen. I'm wondering if its just from the impact of falling on my knee or maybe because it's something more serious.... I've tried to ice pack my knee and so far it's provided some comfort. Also there is not visible bruising on my knee... HOw should I proceed from here ?

You probably did not break it. I've had 13 fractures and they are excruiciatingly painful.

You should see an osteopath to get your knee looked at. There may be ways of wrapping it to reduce pain.

It may take another couple days for bruising to work its way to the surface.

Nope doubt it, my friend is an ice skater, he falls on ice all the time and has never broken his knee. You must have just bruised it on the inside, it doesn't always show visible bruising, best advice is to try to stay off it for a couple of days and if you don't see and improvment go to a doctor.

Its probably just a bad bruise. keep icing it for72 hours, then switch to heat. It will bruise. You might also try witch hazel to help heal it. the best formula is in 'tucks', yes, the hemmorhoid relief pads. My daughter fell on cobblestones when she was 14, and this is what the e r doctor told us to do after x-rays proved she did no permanent damage. She couldn't walk for 2 days after the fall, but was fine within a week with almost no bruising at all.

did you slip with 1 leg bent, almost behind you? Similar thing happened to me 6 years ago. You probably sprained your knee. Whenever you sprain something, remember this: R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compress, elevate)

so, wrap it in an ace-bandage (not too loose or too tight, don't cut off circulation, but you want it to be snug.)

as long as you don't have high blood pressure or diabetes, you can take ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) around the clock to help with the pain and swelling. assuming you are an adult, you can take 600 or 800mg (that's 3 or 4 tablets of over the counter ibuprofen) 3 times a day with food.

just try to stay off the injured leg as much as you can, and try to sit with your leg elevated. also, it may help to put a pillow under your knee while sleeping. DO NOT SLEEP WITH ACE BANDAGE ON! it will cut off your circulation.

if all this doesn't help, and you're still in a lot of pain after a day or 2, call your doctor, just in case.

I think I have never had a broken bone, Or have I? Crushed thumb and partial amputation, I guess that could be called broken bone. I did fall from a height and need a cane to walk but didn't break anything.

If you can walk, your knee is not broken. It sounds like a bone bruise, which would explain the swelling and the pain.

Sounds like you might have bruised your interior peligular ligament. It should be fine with rest. If you must walk on it please use a crutch. Use the cruth for at least 4 weeks.

If you can walk on it - it definately isn't broken. It's probably bruised. take advil and put it up when you're laying in bed.
