I want to try out for the tennis team in spring and get JV ( junior varsity, otherwise known as the C team) at my local Highschool. However seeing that spring is in about 4 months and i dont have very much tennis experience, if i started lessons now would i get good enough to even make the team? Should i even waste the money of getting lessons? Im tall and in shape and i run so im athletic and i know i could do it but is 3/4/5 months enough to practice?

I played tennis 3 years in high school and it is more difficult than it looks and in about 3 months you can be good if you try hard but there is no way you can be real good in that amount of time.

But to some up your question, I would say yes you should because tennis is a really fun sport to play, and you will get alot of fun out of it. Also ask urself is there alot of good players at ur high school? Or is it just a walk on sport? Either way its good! If there are no good players than u can put your team on the map, and if there is good players then u got competition to strive to get better. SO MY ANSWER IS YES!

I asked this question a while back, and the answers I got varied. CONCLUSION: Table tennis doesn't help your tennis. Why? Because in tennis the court is at least 10 times as long and wide, meaning you have to smack the ball harder. WAY HARDER. And with the serve and everything, you can't compare the two sports together.

You could take lessons and learn the basics of footwork and stuff. Practice with your friends or JVs during your free time if possible. Play at the tennis courts with a whole bunch people that know how to play. You'll get a lot better in about 4 months. I did the same thing for my school. I'm a freshman, and I'm #4 in JV at my school.

Hey, I play varsity tennis for my high school and didn't play my freshman year. If you want to compare, just keep playing. The lessons will help you out greatly so if you have the money I would do them. Play at least 2-3 times a week, and work on your technique and you should be fine for JV.

It matters how often you take lessons, how good the instructor is, how often you practice when not taking lessons, and how much you want it. If you do all these moderately, you should have a great chance of making the team. It also depends on how competitve the school's tennis program is. Tennis is a great sport, so even if you don't make the team, keep on playing. It's a sport you can play for the rest of your life.

if you can get lessons get them, you will be more confident. I played tennis when I was in high school and I loved it. when I started playing I did not know anything, the more I practice the better I got I even made it to varsity. Don't worry if u can play or not just give it 100% you will do good

It depends on your fitness level, age, and skills.

I think 5 months of practice is enough for a fit teenager to get good at tennis if he/she practices at least 4 days a week.

for tennis i'd say no but you can do the impossible, it all depends on how commited you are going to be. if its your dream, go for it, practice day and night and you'll make the team. Have you played at all before? if you live in tampa, fl i'll be your practice buddy.

hm...i think you COULD do it..if you played at least 6 hours a day..it would be very difficult, but its very possible if you are a hard worker. It's great that you're athletic and everything! Keep up the good work! I hope you make it! GOOD LUCK!! :)
