Why don't you develop a portfolio? Take some "before" shots of your family and friends, then do your stuff and take some "after"shots. Maybe for an employer, seeing is believing.

Perhaps it is not as much as lying as how the other people are portraying themselves. When applicants have the same talents and experience, employers don't go eenie meenie minie moe.... they tend to go with the one that fits with the company. Most schools offer counselors and/or services to help get a job. Why not practice your interviewing skills with them. If your school does not, practice with a freind.

Some tips, always smile, look them in the face when answering, present yourself for the job. If you are applying to a hip, trendy salon then perhaps a redo of your hair, makeup, clothes is in order. Beauticians should be personable and know the latest trends and fads. Be confident, you have to be especially in the position you are applying for.

Since I don't know you, I can't really give you an answer. This was the first thing that came into my head as I have had to interview for and gave interviews on many jobs. When every applicant is the same, I always would go for the one that was outgoing and freindly.

Good luck with your job search and don't give up!!!!

I never lie to get a job and that is why I have the same problem.. However what you should evaluate is the attractiveness of the other applicants. Unbeknownst to the conscious decision of the interviewer he (or she) will be biased , all qualifications being equal, to the more attractive applicant. This may be something the interviewer consciously or unconsciously does but nonetheless it happens. I think it is deplorable however is is a sad smack of reality. I think it is refreshing when people evaluate you based on your skills and not because you have a nice rack, six pack or can. It is refreshing.

Wait---don't lie or do anything rash---your integrity is at stake. What is REALLY the reason? Personal appearance? Attitude? Maybe there are not enough jobs for all the candidates. Is there anyone who is willing to speak for you ?? How about accepting a lower or different position at a shop---just to get in the door and work your way up. No one owes you anything--you have to earn it.Besides, you may be better at something else all together....and didn't know it. If you are a young person, you can go to school for something else. Research your options. How about working a mortuary or hospital or nursing home. They all need people to do styling or make-up. How about doing it out of your own place---can anyone front you for the set-up of a shop? Once you are a boss, you'll see how hard it is to making a selection for the proper employees. Good luck and happy hunting---you're only young once---enjoy your youth.

I know of many people who have lied on resumes to get a job but in many cases this has come back to bite them. The only time I've lied to get a job was not telling them about a back injury I sustained in the service so that I could get an income going. I never got the job - thank goodness as I'd probably have really hurt myself.

I did once. There was this job I knew I would be good at & all the places I applied at were not calling me. So this is what I did. I called them up & said I got a message that a place had called & wanted me to do an interview & I thought it might be them. I got the job by the way.

I have never lied on an application, but I share the same predicament as you. I am currently going to school to get a degree in multimedia, (graphic design, web sites, animation, ect) But I don't have ANY experience in that field outside of school. What I did was to start working volunteer jobs for non-profits. Sure I don't get paid cash, but I get a wealth of experience to list on my resume. Not to mention it feels really DARN good to help out. Maybe you could do something similar? There are not too many people out there who will turn down free labor, lol. Maybe you could work out something with rest homes, or check into the Salvation Army, or other groups that help the poor. You might be able to work out something with them like free haircuts for poor folks once a month. I don't know, the possibilities are endless, but If you polish up that resume with loads of experience, you are bound to find something! Take Care, and Best of luck! =)

that does seem very unfair... if the employer of a person that lied to get the job ever finds out that person lied then they will instantly be fired and any and all benefits will be revoked. This happened to an uncle of mine. He got injured on the job and they looked further into his application and found out he lied so they didn't have to help him. Its really a bad idea, you should be patient and find a good job honestly.

maybe they only want one employee with that qualification and the majority of their staff with a higher qualification. The employer couldn't hire staff with the same qualification, she would need people with a range of experience and qualifications. I hope you find a great job soon :)
