File it for last year only. You will be in soup if you file for previous years. There is penalty involve in such delayed filing. Get a tax consultant. In the form there is a col requiring you to tell why you have not filed earlier if eligible for tax. The tax consultant will be able to help you. he will normally charge you about Rs.300/-, but will be able to save you a lot.

According to your question it reflect that you have reached the taxable limit now only.I feel that the depart should not have any problem if you file the returns for last five OR ten years,this will go only on record along with a warning that you should file your returns on time because your income was not taxable.But you should not fool them,at any point of time if they come to know that you have done this with the intension to evade the tax authority then you will have to pay income tax,penalty etc as per the law of this land.YOU BETTER CONTACT SOME TAX CONSULTANT

Actually in practice the return of income can be filed for the previous two years including your current return. In detail if you are going to file your return of income for the assessment year 2006-07, you can also file the return of income for the assessment year 2005-06 too. you cannot file the return of income other than the above mentioned two assessment years.

This being the first one, as you say, how could there be the previous ones? Does it mean you were taxable but did not bother to file the returns? Better check with the authority!
