My supervisor knows that I am looking for a new job.
In a meeting, my supervisor(64 year old male) said to my working professional colleague Jane(64 year old female who is equal to him)said "Carol doesn't say much these days. Does she find everything overwhelming?" (male supervisor has never liked me)
Jane said "this place sickens her"

Was Jane trying to stick it to him or something? What do you think?

If there is any spite on Jane's part, was it against him.

Jane is helping me to find a new job.

Jane is my reference and has written a wonderful letter of recommendation for me.

I think Jane was trying to be honest with him. I hope you can find something else soon. This can not be a good environment for you to work in; I think you have a lot to offer to the right company. Good Luck

I'm just going to throw this in there, but perhaps, with the slightest of chances, that while the male supervisor has never liked you, you may be a productive worker and that he may have been trying to throw in a hint that he doesn't want you to leave. Jane, however, knew that you would definitely be leaving and threw the first polite insult that came into her head.

I believe its one of the two: she was either insulting you or baing honest with him.
You can figure out which one it is by looking how Jane interacts with your supervisor. How does she talk to him on other occasions? What is their relationship and so forth.

Don't be surprised if she was laughing at you in a matter of speaking while helping you with a letter.
Very often people do you a favor and then mock you behind your back.

I think you should stop trying to figure this out and keep looking for a new job. I hope you find a good fit. Good luck!

P.S. I read your question twice, and I think Jane was either insulting you or insulting him. It doesn't matter, though. You're trying to get out of there.

I think jane was probalby sharing an observation she made with him. But was there spite in her tone of voice, did she say it quickly...no nevermind. just an observation.

In this un-fair world the best way to advance in a company is to make your co-workers look bad instead of making yourself look good.
