well the answer is women...
The United States Declaration of Independence included a kind of moral and legal egalitarianism. Because "all men are created equal", each person is to be treated equally under the law. Originally this statement excluded women, slaves and other groups, but, over time, universal egalitarianism has won wide adherence and is a core component of modern civil rights policies.

Before You start with Your "jokes" perhaps You should acquaint Yourself with history. At the time of writing the term "Men" referred to those people who had been disenfranchised by the British. Only men of property had a right to vote in elections held within Great Britain. Obviously that policy crossed the Atlantic with the colonists. Have You ever thought about the fact that up until the granting of the vote to women in England even Queen Victoria could not go to the ballot? Makes one think, doesn't it?

No that isn't true. The word mankind, humanity, all men etc meant all. Women weren't that big into politics in those days they had families to take care of and didn't have time to dabble in that particular type of work.(unless they were queen of some country).
Trust me, women were powerful in other ways it was subtle but everyone was aware. My whole family was run by women and its no fun being in a matriarchy. The men were all weak and did were they were told it wasn't fun to watch. That is why I don't vote for women politicians I know what they are like.
