usually an artist will charge $100 per hour... something with color will probably run at least $100 (since it takes more time to do) keep in mind that custom designs cost extra but they can be much more rewarding to have in the long run (think, no one will have the same tattoo as you). definately visit a few different artists in your area to get a feel for them and so you can pick someone that you like. having a good relationship with your artist is the best situation you can be in.
a word of warning however, tattoos on the lower back are very suggestive. consider the messages that you will send to people by having one there. part of the reason that I had my first tattoo done on my shoulder blade was to avoid that sort of connotation. even if you want to advertise yourself now, you probably wont want to once your middle aged and married.
and after all that seriousness... enjoy it and know that you will probably want another after it :)

Well, that is difficult to answer because it depends on the size, detail, and amount of color. Plus, you have to consider the artist and his own idea of what the prices should be. There isn't a consistant across the board pricing for tattoos. It is an art. So, prices will vary.
I have a tattoo on my lower back. It is what I would say is medium. It is very colorful and detailed. It is an angel with very elaborate and colorful wings. If I remember correctly I paid about $110-120 for it. But at that time the place I went was running a special. It was around Easter and if you brought in a stuffed rabbit for the local children's hospital you could get a discount. So, it would have been more. It was worth every penny!

That is actually not an easy question to answer as most shops have completely different pricing. I have paid $200 for a tattoo that would normally cost around $350 elsewhere. The best thing to do is shop around. Take your design to a shop or browse at theirs and ask for a price. Shop around to find someone you feel comfortable with for a decent price.
