I have asked before about the steam cannon....they claim there 24 pound cannonball traveled one mile...It was I think Episode 44...the angle of the cannon did not make it look like it could travel a whole mile. They had 60 Pounds of pressure..Plus at the very end when they picked up the cannon ball it had a 3" indention in the dirt...Yet Big fat Jamie had no footprints in the place where he picked it up at the very end..My Question is is it possible to travel that far plus why did Jamie Have No indentions in the sand where he picked it up..I think it was dropped there ...Is there something I am missing...There must be a Equasion..to prove it..P.S. I ADMIT I AM A BAD SPELLER...SORRY>>ANY Sane answer..B.E.N.

its possible. the flight path of a projectile is much different than one would think. As the bullet (or in this case cannonball) leaves the chamber, it's speed into the air causes an upward force called lift. after the initial lift, it continues forward at the speed it is traveling with a negative acceleration of 9.81 m/s^2 due to gravity.
the path would look like this:------^-----______
Imagine the carrot is over a longer period of time, and it would rise at that point.

I caught part of an episode where they tried to launch a ball by heating up some part of a cannon with a torch, then shooting in some water to flash off and launch the cannon ball. They could barely get the ball out of the barrel.

Not sure if this was the same episode. A true 60 psi pressure would put almost a ton of force on a 6" ball so should rocket out nicely.

That's exactly what i though when i saw that episode!!!!! It looked like it was placed there beforehand, almost as if they shot the show at two different times.

I dont know about an equation for it though

sorry!!!

I've noticed that a lot of things on the show are edited. Whether it was for safety reasons (which they put huge emphasis on), or other video techno-babble, stuff like this happens a lot.

No, they did not shoot that cannonball a whole mile. Far from it.
