actually those colours are part of the mid 1940's cococola advertising campaign thet featured the santa we all now know and love. Its a leftover from the decking of the halls with boughs of holly. an old pagan tradition .red and green , holly berries and holly leaves.

actually yes.
In America the christmas colors are red and green. Green for the "immortality" of the evergreen that is the only thing to survive the winter cold and red for the blood.
In parts of Europe the colors are green and pink, pink is for the blood idea as well, but it is not as garish as bright blood red.
